New Pea Protein-Fortified Gluten-Free Wafer Bar Launches at VitaFoods

Carmit Candy Industries launches a novel, delicious, protein-fortified, gluten-free wafer bar in Geneva at the Finished Products Europe, co-located with Vitafoods exhibition (booth #10006).

“We chose pea protein over other, more common protein sources such as whey or soy because of its full amino-acid profile; the rise of veganism and demand for vegan and vegetarian products; and, most importantly, because of the non-allergenic properties of peas,” says Steve Grun, CEO of Carmit. “In addition to the protein itself, we believe the carrier—in this case, a gluten- and egg-free wafer bar, is a novel and exciting way to deliver a healthy dose of protein. Plus, we coated the bars in rich, dark chocolate, making the product even more palatable and giving it a distinct and sophisticated flavor.”

Packed with 5 grams of complete, pea-derived protein, Carmit’s protein bar is specially formulated for the consumer who wants to curb hunger, add a much needed dose of protein to his/her diet and still enjoy a tasty, guilt-free snack within a healthy, gluten-free lifestyle. Each wafer bar provides 10% of the recommended daily protein intake.

Carmit offers this innovative wafer as a private-label product, in a variety of packaging options, for retailers, or to supplement makers and confectionery manufacturers. It is entirely gluten-free to serve multiple niches in the marketplace.

“Our team of technologists spent months developing the right balance of ingredients to incorporate the desired protein levels without adversely affecting the organoleptic properties in an allergen-free, protein-rich, tasty bar,” says Adrian Sagman VP of International Sales and Marketing of Carmit. “The primary challenge in developing this wafer bar was making sure the product tastes great. That’s not always easy when working with pea protein, as it tends to have a dominant flavor and a high viscosity. To counterbalance the pea flavor, a 60% dark chocolate coating was employed. This masks any perceived off flavors of the protein, without eliminating completely the favorable flavor attributes. The balance of filling to wafer also was carefully developed in order to preserve the crispiness and airiness of the wafers.”

This new, healthy snack by Carmit incorporates an excellent source of pea protein that is easy to digest and contains an ideal combination of essential amino acids for sports performance. Pea protein can help provide both a pre-workout energy boost and improved post-workout muscle recovery.

Anlit Launches Omega-3 Focus at Vitafoods – Geneva

Anlit Ltd., Israel, launches Omega-3 Focus, a high-EPA supplement for children, in Geneva at the Finished Products Europe exhibition, co-located with Vitafoods, May 6-8, booth no. 10030. This new, innovative, omega-3 supplement for children is designed specifically to taste great while addressing their insufficient consumption of omega-3.

Mrs. Sigal Tepper, Scientific Director of Anlit will conduct a seminar at Vitafoods titled “Putting it into Practice – Omega 3 in kids Nutrition” Thursday, 8th of May, 10:30AM at the Exhibitor Presentation Theatre. Stressing the importance of omega-3 consumption for children, Tepper will cover practical aspects of the latest child-related omega-3 research.

EPA & DHA (eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid) omega-3 fatty acids are well known for their importance to the development, function and health of the brain and nervous system. Interventional studies and meta-analyses substantiate the benefits of high-EPA omega-3 for children with neurodevelopmental disorders, improving reading, spelling, and behavior. Moreover, numerous studies published in the last decade demonstrate a correlation between low blood levels of EPA and DHA in children and various neurodevelopmental disorders, such as ADHD.

The consumption of fish—the main source of omega 3s—is declining among children, and the texture, taste and smell of omega-3 oil is often highly challenging.

Anlit’s Kidi Bites Technology overcomes challenges of unpleasant flavor and aroma, providing a tasty and healthy solution for kids. Anlit makes products targeting children’s taste and texture preferences, while providing essential health benefits. The delicious matrix, with a chocolate-like texture, overcomes children’s reluctance to taking nutritional supplements.

“Anlit is committed to providing healthy-yet-tasty supplement solutions, in a child-friendly format, to support optimal child growth,” says Shai Karlinski, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Anlit. “Kids are more sensitive than adults to the appearance and texture of food and supplements. While adults can rationalize the necessity of taking supplements that might be unappealing in appearance, taste or texture, children are not bound by such considerations—they like flavorsome products that are smooth, soft and easy to chew.”

A new High EPA supplement in Anlit’s unique Kidi Bites form provides children with a delicious way of including a significant amount of essential omega-3 fatty acids in their daily diet.

Anlit’s High EPA supplement for children contains:

  • Delicious, fun, fish-shaped serving
  • No preservatives and no artificial coloring
