The FDA launched an institutional monitoring platform in April 2025 to track food-industry commitments to eliminate petroleum-derived synthetic dyes by the end of 2027. The program includes major North American brands and varies in scope. The FDA is also reviewing additional dyes as part of this regulatory effort for safer formulations.
