LycoRed Expands Natural Beta-Carotene Production Capacity

For the section “new product development”, I have found an interesting news in the field of  natural food colours, a category which is growing in interest and sales.

LycoRed, Israel, announces the expansion of production capacity of its natural beta-carotene colouring line in response to the growing demand of food and beverage companies in the US, West Europe and Asia-Pacific. LycoRed will showcase Intense®, its new line of formulations of natural beta-carotene colours, at the FiE show, November 19-21, Frankfurt.

The expansion of natural beta-carotene colouring line will take place at LycoRed’s state-of-the-art facilities in the Ukraine, where B.Trisporabiomass is produced. Production is expected to grow by double digits throughout 2014. LycoRed carries a variety of beta-carotene formulationsunder the brand name Lyc-O-BetaTM. Included are several emulsion and dispersion systems designed specifically for a wide variety of beverage and food applications.

“The production expansion is a result of a growing global demand for LycoRed’s natural beta-carotene colours, as well as supplying agreements with leading food and beverage companies”, explains Roee Nir, Global Commercial Manager of Colour for LycoRed. “The trend of replacing artificial colours with natural food colours started several years ago, and now the increasing concern of consumers has led to their direct approach to major food and beverage companies. They are demanding manufacturers to remove or replace artificial colours. Our recently launched Lyc-O-BetaTM Intense and BetaCoteTM Intense spurred market interest beyond our expectations.” Lyc-O-Beta Intense should deliver higher colour intensity for orange-coloured beverages, allowing reduced colourant usage—and therefore higher cost effectiveness—for the customers.

According to recent data provided by Innova Market Insights, 2012 alone accounts for nearly all of the 28.0% of product launches tracked with natural food colourants between 2008 and 2012. The average annual growth of product launches with natural food colourants is 22%.
