๐Ÿš” Chinese authorities have ordered nationwide inspections of perishable vegetables following reports that a ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ๐š๐ฅ๐๐ž๐ก๐ฒ๐๐ž ๐ฌ๐จ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐ฐ๐š๐ฌ ๐›๐ž๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ž๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ž๐ซ๐ฏ๐ž ๐‚๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ž๐ฌ๐ž ๐œ๐š๐›๐›๐š๐ ๐ž during transport in Hebei province.

The State Councilโ€™s Food Safety Office, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the State Administration for Market Regulation instructed local authorities to investigate the case, which concerns Kangbao County.

๐Ÿ”Ž The action followed a video circulated online showing agricultural produce buyers in Tunken Township dipping cabbage into the solution before loading it. Some consignments were destined for Suqian, in Jiangsu province, while others were bound for a market in Hefei, Anhui province.

The county administration confirmed the facts and classified the use of formaldehyde for preservation during transport as unlawful. Police have taken measures against the individuals and vehicles involved.

Beijingโ€™s Xinfadi Market has barred the consignments concerned from entering the market and increased the frequency of rapid testing for pesticide residues and illegal additives. Under Chinaโ€™s Food Safety Law and Law on Quality and Safety of Agricultural Products (other than common sense), carcinogenetic formaldehyde may not be of course used as a processing aid, and its addition to food is prohibited in any form.
