NGTs: new EU legal framework

Regulation (EU) 2026/1388 establishes a framework for plants produced using new genomic techniques (NGTs), dividing them into two categories. Category 1 NGT plants are treated similarly to natural plants, while Category 2 requires authorizations. Organic production prohibits the use of NGT plants. The regulation takes effect on July 16, 2026.
